A special experience in Bonn.

Speaking at the historic former German Bundestag plenary chamber at the World Conference Center Bonn today was quite a special experience.

At the German SatCom Days in Bonn, organized by the Deutsche Raumfahrtagentur im DLR, I had the opportunity to present a short SatCom Slam titled:

Minimum Connectivity Under Maximum Stress: First Steps.

A few examples we are currently exploring in Berlin:

  • SALSAT: RF spectrum awareness from orbit
  • RACCOON and the open-source RACCOON OS: Signal Triangulation and secure onboard architectures for resilient satellite systems, with security in mind
  • CyBEEsat: upcoming 1U in-orbit demonstration and potentially the first German satellite on a European microlauncher

The conference itself has been excellent so far: a very international SatCom community, strong technical discussions, and great networking across research, industry, and startups.

The first evening also featured an inspiring Dinner Talk with ESA astronaut and former Spanish science minister Pedro Duque and Michaela Benthaus, who recently flew to space on a Blue Origin mission. Her journey is a remarkable example of perseverance and determination.

Many thanks to the organizing team, especially Björn Gütlich and the whole Satellite Communications Division at the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V., for bringing the community together in such a unique setting here in Bonn.

Looking forward to the second day of discussions.

And speaking in the historic Bundestag plenary chamber, with its unique atmosphere and surprisingly comfortable seats, made the event even more memorable. Hopefully the conference will return to this venue again in the future.

Quantum Galactics (Official comment)

Great to see so many colleagues, partners, and friends from the international satellite communication community coming together at the German SatCom Days in Bonn.

Events like this show how much innovation currently happens across research, industry, and startups in Europe’s space ecosystem.

The SatCom Slam highlighted early work around SALSAT, RACCOON, RACCOON OS, and new approaches to resilient and secure satellite communication architectures.

Small satellites make it possible to test and demonstrate such concepts quickly in orbit—with real signals, real constraints, and real operational relevance.

We are especially looking forward to the upcoming CyBEEsat mission, which will demonstrate secure onboard computing based on RACCOON OS in space.
